The School of Oriental and African Studies, part of the University of London, owns an impressive collection of manuscript treasures and artefacts from all over Asia and Africa, collected since 1916 as an educational resource for its faculties.
In the early 2000s a generous grant from the Foyle Foundation enabled a programme of cataloguing and evaluating the collection, and the creation within the school's Brunei Gallery of "The Foyle Special Collections Gallery" for a permanent rotated display of the collection.
The collection and new gallery were launched in the 2007 exhibition "Objects of Instruction: Treasures from the School of Oriental and African Studies", for which I was contracted to design and run an education programme.
